THE FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLES OF HYDRO-X PROCESS

 

The function and advantages of the Hydro-X method for the prevention of corrosion and the formation of scale

Minimal increase in dissolved solids

The organic substances in Hydro-X play a decisive role. Although they are present in only minimal quantities, they are finely divided and highly dispersed so that they exhibit the surface active properties of colloids. There is thus a huge surface area available from the organic compounds for reaction without increasing the total quantity of dissolved solids to a noticeable degree.

Physical effect

The finely divided and highly dispersed organic compounds have a very high molecular weight and attract molecules of the water impurities. The effect is comparable to the mutual attraction of two substances; there is no chemical reaction at this stage of the water treatment.

Neutral salt adsorption

The adsorbing molecule is neutral and can therefore adsorb all salts in the water. Both those of temporary and permanent hardness and salts such as iron, chloride and silica compounds are adsorbed.

Sludge precipitation

The adsorbing molecules ensure that all impurities become precipitated as sludge. This sludge is mobile, amorphous and non-cohesive. The risk of scale formation is thereby eliminated at any spot in the plant.

Ionic neutralization

The neutral molecular particles in Hydro-X adsorb both the positive and negative ions (cations and anions). The cations and anions neutralize one another through mutual and simultaneous adsorption.

 

Immediate adsorption

The adsorption of any ion formed by solution in the water is immediately effected.

Corrosion prevention

The ionic neutralization has a direct and immediately manifested effect on galvanic (electro-chemical) corrosion process based on the exchange of ions between points of different electrical potential and the ionic neutralization will therefore prevent this form of corrosion. Hydro-X also extremely effective against gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide. A 10 ppm concentration of Hydro-X is sufficient to prevent corrosion from these gases in any part of the system through which water and steam flows irrespective of feed-water temperature.

Prevention of caustic embrittlement

Caustic soda can embrittle steel. Embrittlement rises in direct proportion to the amount of free hydroxyl activity in the boiler water. With the application of Hydro-X, the free hydroxylic activity is kept very low, greatly reducing any risk of caustic embrittlement.

Problems associated with zinc plates

Hydro-X prevents corrosion following different principles from those of zinc. The scale dissolving effect of Hydro-X is reduced by this metal. The basic substances break down zinc, leading to the formation of zinc oxide and sodium zincate. They close the pores of the boiler scale, reducing the effect of the Hydro-X molecules. The zinc plates are therefore removed before initiating the Hydro-X treatment.
