THE FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLES OF THE HYDRO-X PROCESS

 

MORE THAN 65 YEARS WITH THE HYDRO-X PROCESS

Conventional water treatment processes are generally based on the following principles:

  • - Purely chemical;
  • - Chemical-mechanical;
  • - Physico-chemical.

Water differs from place to place and the composition of water may even show seasonal variations. This means that water has to be conditioned according to principles which show both flexibility and a high level of precision despite individual variations of water quality. Purely chemical principles create an artificial chemical environment in the water, making later correction inevitable.

Such was the background for Danish Engineer A. Johansen who started his research in the late 1920's which was basis for the development of Hydro-X - a physico-chemical process offering a wide security margin and complete flexibility towards variations in the chemical composition of feed-water. By 1940 the development work was largely completed and production could be started, although the marketing of Hydro-X did not begin until after the war.

Today, the Hydro-X Process is used world-wide and in a large variety of installations. Several thousand steam boilers use the process as well as 300 out of the 450 of Denmark's district heating plants. In volume terms, Hydro-X is used on 80% of Denmark's steam boilers and 50% of it's district heating water.

Exports to more than 40 countries, however, constitute the major part of the production of Hydro-X today.
